Tom Amick (Bio)
Originally from Indiana, Tom moved to New York City in 1977 to study acting. He spent 3 years employed with Pace University Lubin School of Business and received a M.B.A. in Finance. Declined offers to work with brokerage firms on Wall Street and instead studied privately with Eulalie Nobel, long-time member of the Actors Studio, for a period of two years. During that period, Tom worked as an extra on several films as well as television soap operas. He played a reporter with several lines on one episode of “As the World Turns,” and qualified for his SAG/AFTRA card.
Upon completion of a scene study workshop program with Ms. Nobel, Tom interviewed with Robert X. Modica and was accepted to participate in his scene study workshop held 3 days weekly for the next three years. During that time one of his scene partners for a period of six weeks was Louise Lasser, former star of “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.” These years were invaluable experience regarding future theatre stage work when Mr. Amick moved to Miami in 1985.
For the next 10 years while in Miami, Tom appeared in more than 34 stage productions with acting companies which included: ACME Acting Company, New Theatre, and Area Stage. From 1990 to 1993, Amick was grant writer for the relatively new Miami City Ballet and successfully wrote more than 130 government as well as corporate and private foundations grant and sponsorship presentations with awards exceeding $4.7 million.
From 1993 to 1995, Tom was editor for the weekly newspapers, “Entertinment News & Views.” He assembled the paper weekly, wrote newly released musical CD reviews and did stories on several local artists as well as an active radio host on a 2-hour program once a month.
In 1995, Amick was hired as national marketing manager for a nationally broadcast television Wall Street wrap-up show, “Nightly Business Report,” and spent five years with the station, WPBT. He also was one of the main on-air spokespersons during the pledge marathons and logged over 1,000 hours of on-air ‘pitching.’ Improvisation was the key factor in being entertaining when asking for donations and Tom worked with several public television celebrities including: Suze Orman, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Gary Null, and Jonathan Pond among others.
Tom moved to Atlanta in 2001 and worked until 2009 as regional account exec and project director for Telematrix, a digital multi-media firm based in Indianapolis, IN. During this time he logged more than 100 hours of on-camera spokesperson, and voice-over time on various projects. When this firm went out of business, Tom was faced with a difficult challenge of finding full-time work because the country had experienced a severe recession. He ended up driving a taxi for the next 4 years to keep his daughter in college so she wouldn’t have to acquire huge student loan debt. The experience of driving allowed Tom to meet and establish instant rapport with thousands of passengers, and this period is one of the most influential ‘creative’ periods in Tom’s career as he learned how to acclimate his persona to fit the given situation or personality type in his car. Most of his clients were high-end senior management or multi-millionaires and yet Tom was able to enjoy countless conversations on multiple topics from international finance to entrepreneurial techniques and strategies.
From 2012 to 2014 Tom worked with a nationally recognized nutraceuticals firm selling wholesale dietary supplements and anti-aging products to clients with private label sites on Amazon. Then late 2014, Tom decided to begin full-time pursuit to his first love ‘acting’ and has since appeared on several television and film sets to re-acclimate to new production techniques and professional processes.
Within the first few weeks working on productions, Tom met Stephen Dean and they immediately established a solid friendship. They have collaborated on a number of projects and decided, with the skill sets among them, and years of experience, to join forces when Stephen started his Dean Film Works firm.
Tom looks forward to working closely with you in the future from concept to project completion, and thank you for considering Dean Film Works. Call me at your earliest convenience and I’ll follow up with an in-person session to begin the process of bringing your ideas to reality.
